Brown Street Kids: Awana
AWANA stands for "Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed." This children's club is designed to teach God's Word in a fun, clear, and consistent way. The Awana season runs from September 10, 2025 through April 29, 2026 meeting on Wednesdays from 6:30-8:00 PM. It is for children 3 years (by Sept 2025) through 6th grade.
Kids Love Awana! It’s an exciting atmosphere—they’ll reach goals, win prizes, and build confidence as they learn ways to memorize and apply Scripture, have fun, enjoy parties and unusual games, meet new friends, and team-build. Using strong Biblical material, our students gain principles and habits that will help them learn to walk with Jesus Christ for life!
Addressing sickness issues: Attendees will be in proximity when reciting verses and playing games. If your child feels unwell or is symptomatic, or has missed school for the day due to sickness, please exercise care for others and stay home from club.
For more information about Awana please contact the church office at (618) 465-8588.
How to Start the Night
Everyone begins Awana by going to the east-side Gym Hall Foyer to check-in at our electronic check-in system. Each child will receive a name tag that has their I.D. number on it. Every parent will receive a parent I.D. number, which will be used to pick up their child at the end of the night. (Children are not dismissed on their own; parents must pick up their children and present their Parent I.D. number to the Leader at the Gym Hall Foyer.)
How an Awana Night Works
Awana is divided into three different segments.
-
Handbook Time
After each child has registered for the season, they will receive a club handbook. The handbook is filled with Bible memory verses and activities to complete. The goal for each child is to put God’s Word in their heart and mind. After completing their handbook they will receive a handbook award.
-
Game Time
Children participate in a recreation time that is comprised of games around the Awana Circle. Kids are asked to dress with tennis shoes so they can participate in Game Time without getting hurt.
-
Large Group Time
These lesson-focused periods consist of age-appropriate, interactive, and energetic Bible study and prayer. (The younger clubs, Cubbies and Sparks, give achievement awards during this time as well. Awards attach to their uniform, so Clubbers must wear their uniform to Awana to receive their achievement awards.)
Family Ministry
During the year, Brown Street has events for the families in our church and community. Events may include: Game Night Getaway, Vacation Bible School, Awana Dinners, Trunk-n-Treat, an annual Spring Musical, Awana Games and Awana Bible Quiz, Grand Prix wood car derby, and more. We would love to have you come join the fun!
